Community colleges are expected to use $2 billion in grants from the U.S. Labor Department to create programs designed to help students find jobs after graduation. A group of 15 community colleges in Massachusetts has used $20 million to create a program that partners with local employers and positions the colleges as the place to go to earn degrees for technical and middle-income jobs. Other grants have gone to organizations such as the National STEM Consortium to boost employment in science, technology, engineering and math.
