Researchers found that magnesium intake is tied to total bone mineral content and density in boys and girls, regardless of race. While boys absorb more magnesium, both genders retain similar levels of the mineral, according to the study presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies meeting. The current recommended daily dose of magnesium for children is approximately 110 mg, but researchers said that about 130 mg is needed for children to absorb and retain an estimated 10 mg a day.
