Nearly 24% of prediabetes patients and 22% of those with diabetes had distal sensorimotor polyneuropathy, according to a German study published in Diabetes Care. However, 91% of those with prediabetes and 77% of diabetes patients with DSPN were not aware they had the condition, researchers said. Moreover, 72% of diabetes patients who had undergone a foot assessment did not know they had DSPN, researchers said.
