The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has selected a team of researchers from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences to study the social and economic effects of gambling as the state prepares for gambling expansion. "[T]his is the first time to actually have the opportunity to document these impacts as they unfold over time," said Rachel A. Volberg, a UMass professor who has studied gambling and problem gambling for nearly three decades.
