Newly signed legislation that will increase Maryland's gasoline tax is expected to provide $4.4 billion in revenue for transportation projects over the next six years, according to state transportation officials. The Purple Line transit project is on a preliminary list of projects that will benefit from the bill, said Gov. Martin O'Malley. "This historic transportation bill allows us to move forward with the first new major transportation projects in more than eight years and get our construction industry back to work," O'Malley said.
