A 19th-century torpedo has been discovered on the seafloor off San Diego by a dolphin trained to detect mines. The 11-foot long, 130-year-old weapon, known as a Howell torpedo, was found in March as the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific used bottlenose dolphins to search the sea for mines. The torpedo will be sent to the Naval History and Heritage Command at the Washington Navy Yard.
