The political battle surrounding the nomination of Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C., to lead Fannie Mae will bring about more partisanship regarding housing, says analyst Jaret Seiberg with Guggenheim Securities, making progress on housing finance reform more difficult. The nomination is contentious in part because Watt is known for his efforts as a congressman to help homeowners in their struggles with banks and for his work to make more borrowers eligible for principal reduction.
