An estimated 90% of the 7 million Americans expected to seek individual coverage through state health insurance exchanges next year will be able to choose among products from at least five different carriers, according to the Obama administration. Officials declined to cite the number of states where fewer than five insurers will participate. Only one applicant has come forward in New Hampshire, and Washington state canceled plans to operate a complete small-business exchange this year after receiving a small-group-plan bid from just one insurance company. Washington had nine insurers, however, that bid to sell individual plans.
