Utica Junior High School in Ohio recently held its first Teach Like a PIRATE Day -- which stands for Passion, Immersion, Rapport, Ask/Analyze, Transformation and Enthusiasm. The school gave teachers the freedom to teach "dream lessons" and students their choice of classes they wanted to attend that day. Principal Ryan McLane said he planned the event after being inspired by a book by California social-studies teacher Dave Burgess, who talked with McLane via Twitter. "We wanted to show the kids that school can be fun, and it's an opportunity for the teachers to step up their game," McLane said.
