The top U.S. carriers secured a legal victory last week when the U.S. patent appeals court agreed with a lower court ruling that cleared them of violations relating to telephone message marketing patents known as "ringbacks." In 2007, Mississippi's Greenville Communications sued AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile USA and Nextel Operations. The higher court upheld a district court judge's interpretation of the patent.
