The largest payments from drugmakers to physicians in the Rochester, N.Y., area involve research and clinical trials. University of Rochester's Gunta J. Liders said the 10 top drugmakers paid the school $5.8 million for research in the last four fiscal years, mostly for studies involving patients. He said he hopes the "Sunshine Act can be implemented in a manner that will strengthen this transparency by leading to more accurate and consistent information from pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies."
