Fitness centers increasingly are targeting the aging baby boomer population with low-impact workout equipment and group exercise classes, a quieter environment and trainers within the boomer age bracket to make it easier to get and stay strong while aging.

Natural sweeteners xylitol, coconut palm sugar and agave nectar each have their benefits, but these benefits may be misunderstood and the drawbacks may be hidden, Sygo writes.
Five major health care organizations have announced the creation of the Alliance to Advance Patient Nutrition, an effort to address malnutrition in hospital patients and effect more positive patient outcomes through nutrition. Goals of the alliance include screening every hospital patient for malnutrition risks and forming documented nutrition-care plans for at-risk patients. The group also will offer nutrition information and resources for hospital-based clinicians on a new website.
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine founder Dr. Neal Barnard, whose parents both developed dementia, calls Alzheimer's disease an "impending disaster." Known for his focus on nutrition and a vegan diet, Barnard wrote "Power Foods for the Brain," which covers Alzheimer's disease but also talks abut brain and cognitive function at all ages.
