Data on 3,712 children with diabetic ketoacidosis found those treated with an isotonic fluid protocol had lower mortality and disability rates compared with an earlier U.S. case series. The isotonic fluid protocol was also associated with earlier presentation of cerebral edema in DKA patients at two hours, compared with seven hours in earlier data. The results were presented at the Pediatric Endocrine Society annual meeting.
