Growing a company sometimes requires reaching out for additional expertise from a consultant or trusted adviser to make up for the skills a leader is lacking, writes Ed Powers. Networking with other CEOs in similar positions can also bring insight and a support system. Powers also advocates taking time to step back and focus on strategy rather than just day-to-day operations, adding a board of advisers to boost accountability and making arrangements for the eventual sale of the business.
