Prior authorization for imaging under Medicare would not lead to cost savings, according to a report from the Congressional Budget Office. The findings are being touted by the Access to Medical Imaging Coalition and the Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance. Prior authorization creates "an artificial barrier between physicians and their patients," said Tim Trysla of the AMIC. "Seniors rely on medical imaging for early detection and to guide their treatment on the road to survivorship."
