Without the market for used games, publishers would lose about 10% of their profit on titles, according to a study of the Japanese video-game market by professors at New York University and the University of Toronto. "The used goods market has been viewed as a threat by producers," professors Masakazu Ishihara and Andrew Ching write. "However, it is not clear if this view is justified because the used goods market also provides owners with an opportunity to sell their products."
