Nearly 70 senators from both parties have signed a letter urging President Barack Obama to intervene and provide a solution to the problems that have plagued the disability claim processing system within the Department of Veterans Affairs. "We need direct and public involvement from you to establish a clear plan to end the backlog once and for all," the letter said. The backlog has reached almost 900,000 claims and has grown by more than 2,000% since 2009, even as the VA's budget has grown, the letter said.
