Sprint Nextel will begin the process of trying to retain the 420,000 U.S. Cellular subscribers it officially acquired on Friday after completing its $480 million purchase of the regional carrier's operations in five Midwestern states. The tricky part: U.S. Cellular handsets are not compatible with Sprint's network. Flush with cash, U.S. Cellular's board on Friday declared a $5.75 per share special dividend. Also at Sprint, the carrier disclosed today that it has bought Kansas City, Mo.-based Handmark, the owner of OneLouder, a social media applications-maker.
