Hong Kong's retail sales rose 6.5% in the first quarter, fueled by a growing number of consumers from mainland China who travel there to shop. During the recent three-day May Day holiday, the number of mainland Chinese traveling to Hong Kong grew by 50% from the same period last year, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and retailers report strong like-for-like sales growth during the holiday.
