Researchers undertaking phantom studies have employed two specialized algorithms to improve tumor detection during 18F-FDG-PET imaging. The algorithms were intended for accurate partial volume correction of small volumes, according to the study published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine Technology. Findings showed the dual-algorithm technique accurately corrected partial volume effects, estimated tumor volume and determined lesion activity. "The results give further support for implementation of resolution recovery methods in PET imaging," researchers said.
