Data on close to 700 pediatric patients with type 2 diabetes revealed that hypertension prevalence increased from 12% to 34% over four years and that the percentage of children with signs of kidney disease jumped threefold during the same period. Researchers also noted faster beta-cell destruction in young patients than in adults, but rates of eye damage progression were similar between the groups. The findings were published in Diabetes Care.
