AAFP Board Chair Glen Stream, M.D., talked with Medscape about the second round of recommendations in the Choosing Wisely campaign, including early induction of labor, screening for carotid artery stenosis in asymptomatic patients, Pap tests in women older than 65 and cervical cancer testing. "The idea behind Choosing Wisely is that cost savings is basically a by-product. Reducing the amount of unnecessary testing and treatment will save money, but it's not the primary goal, and it's not at all the deciding factor on which items to focus on or the information behind those individual recommendations," he said.
