American Airlines has become the first U.S. carrier to switch to electronic flight bags. American has handed out 8,000 iPads to pilots to replace traditional 35-pound flight bags, which is estimated to save at least 400,000 gallons of fuel and $1.2 million in fuel costs a year. "Our focus on technological improvement throughout our operation has never been stronger as we continue to build the new American," said Patrick O’Keeffe, vice president of airline operations technology, in a statement.
