At the International Paralympic Committee's Athletics Grand Prix in Berlin, Marlou van Rhijn of Holland, world record holder in the 100-meter race for double amputees, became the fastest female amputee runner ever with a time that beat the record for single-leg amputees as well. She also set a new world record for the 400 meter. Brazilian Alan Oliveira set a new world's record for male amputees in the 100 meter of 10.77, beating the previous mark set by South Africa's Oscar Pistorius.
