"Something has to happen in the Northeast Corridor," said Robert LaCroix, Amtrak’s chief of development for the proposed $15 billion Gateway Program. The program would double rail capacity and build two new bridges and two new tunnels under the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York. Meanwhile, Amtrak President Joseph Boardman said proposed budget cuts pose threats to Amtrak's service along the Northeast Corridor.
