Sharp increases in programming expenses, coupled with challenges in retaining video customers, could lead to consolidation among cable providers, analysts said during a panel discussion at The Cable Show in Washington, D.C. Comcast, along with two other MSOs, could emerge with leeway to negotiate programming fees, said Doug Mitchelson, managing director at Deutsche Bank Securities. Separately, cable has the potential to expand business voice and data services, according to the panel.
