Two indexes that track China's industrial output give conflicting results for May. The HSBC/Markit Purchasing Managers' Index reached 49.2, down from 50.4 in April, the first contraction in seven months and the lowest reading since October. China's official manufacturing index says 50.8, up from 50.6 in April. Meanwhile, government data indicate expansion of the services sector is slowing.
