Some Connecticut superintendents and other school leaders are working to ensure students with disabilities have equal access to extracurricular activities. While many schools offer unified sports programs, in which students with disabilities participate on the same teams as peers without disabilities, school leaders -- expected to come together in the fall -- also are interested in expanding program offerings by creating areawide teams such as basketball for children who use wheelchairs or cheering squads for students with disabilities.
