The National Council on Teacher Quality's report on teacher training is based on "a paper review of published course requirements and course syllabi against a checklist that does not consider the actual quality of instruction that the programs offer, evidence of what their students learn or whether graduates can actually teach," writes Linda Darling-Hammond, the Charles E. Ducommun Professor of Education at Stanford University. In this commentary, Darling-Hammond contrasts the report with the methods of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, of which she is chairwoman.
