The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has demonstrated several new approaches to improving the reliability of prosthetic limbs with direct neural connections. In one example at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, a veteran in Iraq controlled a prosthetic arm after the transfer of multiple nerves to the targeted muscle. In another test, at Case Western Reserve University, researchers used a Flat Interface Nerve Electrode to control sensory feedback from the prosthesis.
