Walt Disney Co. and Sony Pictures Entertainment are conducting a trial in South Korea to determine the viability of offering movies simultaneously in theaters and as on-demand rentals. Sony offered "Django Unchained" as an online or cable rental three weeks after it opened in theaters, while Disney's "Wreck-it Ralph" and "Brave" were made available as rentals about a month after their cinematic debuts. Other major studios may follow suit, but in the U.S. top theater chains typically won't run a title without a minimum 90-day window before it can be released for home-entertainment purposes.
