The Department of Energy's funding agreement with Babcock & Wilcox covering small modular reactor development shows that the department remains supportive of the technology, observers say. Under the deal, B&W will get about $150 million in financing over the next five years for the development and licensing of its mPower reactor. The reactor is capable of generating about 180 megawatts and can run for four years without refueling.
