The final construction contract for the 2016 ExoMars mission was signed by European Space Agency officials Monday with contractor Thales Alenia Space. The mission is focused on discovering present or past life on Mars using the Trace Gas Orbiter, which detects methane and atmospheric gases, and the Entry, Descent and Landing Demonstrator Module, a rover that can drill down 6.6 feet to collect dirt samples.
