The Federal Aviation Administration is deploying some new procedures through the NextGen ATC effort to reduce spacing between aircraft during takeoffs and landings. In 2011, the FAA began using the new NextGen effort at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and it has increased the number of planes leaving per hour from four to 12. The NextGen effort has been approved for airports in Memphis, Tenn., Boston, New York, St. Louis, Cleveland, Seattle, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
