Academics who are offered another job should be wary of counteroffers and be sure to have a transition plan in place, Diane Fennig, a senior consultant with the Human Capital Group, writes in this blog post. Also, exiting academics should give 30 days' notice, but be prepared to leave earlier if the administration requests it -- without airing grievances on the way out. "Years of hard work and accomplishment can quickly be lost and forgotten if you leave on a sour note and do not respect the exit process," Fennig warns.
