The Fort Dodge Community School District in Iowa recently made a final decision to adopt two new math programs -- Math Expressions and Big Ideas. However, the decision wasn't made lightly, said Sue Wood, the district's director of curriculum, instruction and assessment. Officials first organized a curriculum study, which yielded three options. Each option was then piloted in schools, and educators used a rubric developed by authors of the Common Core State Standards to rate and review each program.
