Educators should not lower the bar for students, but they should align their expectations with students' developmental needs and abilities, instructional coach David Ginsburg writes in this blog post. Ginsburg offers several examples of how teachers have done this, including a middle-school teacher whose students were more cooperative when they worked collaboratively, and a fifth-grade teacher who made adjustments after realizing such students preferred learning new skills rather than improving existing ones.
