Oracle and IBM are gearing up for a competition in August, when both will announce their next-generation server processors at the Hot Chips event, Rick Merritt writes. IBM will focus on its Power 8 chip, and Oracle will highlight its M6 CPU and its Bixby chip. Intel may release some details on its tablet chip, the Atom-based "Bay Trail SoC," and the event also will feature presentations from Microsoft and Qualcomm.
