The U.S. nuclear industry will continue to play a key role in the country's energy mix despite Southern California Edison's decision to permanently shut down its San Onofre nuclear plant in California, said Scott Peterson, senior vice president for communications at the Nuclear Energy Institute. "San Onofre is a unique situation, to the replacement of those steam generators, but when you look at the prospects of our industry, we're building five reactors today in this country," Peterson said.
