Officials in a Massachusetts district say they have a plan to help collect unpaid meal debt while still serving lunches to students. Under the so-called no-credit meal policy, students who have negative account balances will be served an alternative meal, which costs the district less, but will be charged the full price to their accounts. "It's a difficult situation, but you have to separate the two things," school committee member Larry Taft said. "We can't stop feeding the child. The win is that the entree we're giving them is nutritionally the same, but they will cost us less to provide."
