Rather than going overseas, a group of 10 students from Monadnock Waldorf High School in New Hampshire recently took their senior service-learning trip to the Lakota Sioux Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. On the reservation, the students painted a school, visited the site of the Wounded Knee massacre and were startled to learn about life on the reservation, which is rife with unemployment, depression and substance abuse.
