About half of all New York City restaurants now earn an "A" from health inspectors on the first try, the number of eateries closed because of health code violations fell 16% compared to the year before, and eateries paid 20% less in fines, according to the Health Department. The numbers show the stricter inspection standards and letter-grade system instituted in 2010 are working, the Bloomberg administration said.
