A report released by Transportation for America has found that at least 66,405 or 11% of the bridges in the U.S. need "significant maintenance, rehabilitation or replacement." The work would cost about $76 billion, according to the Federal Highway Administration. However, dedicated funding for bridge repair was eliminated in the two-year transportation-funding bill passed last year. "The upshot is that bridge repair now must compete with other transportation needs," the report added.
