Some restaurants have started rewarding social media users with a high number of followers by giving out free desserts and even off-menu goodies when they post pictures of their meal. "It's almost like they are becoming a brand ambassador on behalf of the restaurant," says David Rodolitz, co-owner of the New York restaurant Empellón Cocina. The downside is that ugly photos can hurt the appeal of these efforts, with some restaurant publicists even asking users to remove unappetizing shots.
