A House oversight committee hearing on the Renewable Fuel Standard was heavily skewed in favor of the oil industry, resulting in a biased impression of the policy, according to the Renewable Fuels Association and other biofuel supporters. The oil industry's complaints about the RFS "is nothing more than a smokescreen meant to distract Americans from the real issues -- our addiction to petroleum, our dependence upon foreign oil, the environmental damage from tar sands and fracking, and, let's not forget, high gas prices," said Bob Dinneen, RFA president and CEO.
