Traditional collaboration between two surgeons during an operation can now be accomplished with two robots, writes Jean Thilmany. The Raven IV system developed by the Bionics Lab at University of California, Santa Cruz, allows two human surgeons at separate remote locations to work side-by-side robotically. A future goal of the system is to automate repetitive motions, freeing surgeons for more vital decision-making.
