The odds of entering a preclinical stage of type 1 diabetes at age 15 were 79% in children who carried islet antibodies against insulin, glutamic acid decarboxylase and insulinoma antigen 2, compared with 0.4% in children who had no islet autoantibodies, German researchers found. The rate of progression to diabetes was faster among those who seroconverted before age 3, according to the study in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
