Some schools have begun to borrow Google's 20% policy, in which employees are able to use 20% of their work time on innovative projects of their own choosing. In schools, according to A.J. Juliani, a tech staff developer and education author, the practice is especially beneficial in helping students develop a passion for learning and providing a purpose for education. In many cases, these projects also allow students to meet and -- surpass -- the standards and skills for their grade level, Juliani writes.
