In a meeting with four leading smartphone-makers on Thursday, New York state's attorney general and San Francisco's district attorney pressed them to commit to install activation locks on all of their models within 12 months. Apple said it already has taken steps to combat smartphone theft, while the others at the meeting -- Microsoft, Google and Samsung Electronics -- offered no comment. Samsung has installed a "kill switch" on the Galaxy S4, but the authorities pushed for more action.
