Internet users are now more likely to pick up malware browsing the website of a retail boutique than a gambling or adult-themed site, according to the director of technology at Sophos, who says small-business websites have become the distribution platform of choice for cybercriminals. James Lyne says that of the roughly 30,000 new infected websites his company registers each day, 80% are tied to SMEs. But rather than recommend boosting investment in security apparatuses, Lyne says businesses should focus on enhancing employee cybersecurity skills and awareness.
